Legal separation

A legal separation proceeding looks exactly the same as a divorce, although at its completion the parties are still legally married. Opting to file for a legal separation instead of a divorce may be useful if court intervention is required but the filing party is uncertain as to whether or not a divorce is necessary. In the event of reconciliation, a legal separation can be withdrawn. A legal separation can also be amended to a divorce if need be.
